Chateau de Chaintres Saumur Champigny Vieilles Vignes 2020
$31.00Add to cartWe love the Loire, it’s the garden of France, and the wines almost across the board retain a beautiful earthiness. While the Tigny family has owned this 17th century chateau since the 1930s it was the addition of cellar master Jean-Philippe Louis that they really stepped up their game, converting the estate to biodynamics, hand picking, and allowing for spontaneous fermentation.
The vines that plunge the deepest into the tuffeau soils of the vineyards range from 50 to 80 years of age. Despite the concentration and structure a sense of freshness permeates this wine—making it “très digeste”. Graceful tannins and an assertive underlying minerality contribute a salty-savory edge to the fruit.
-
Chateau de la Bonneliere Chinon Les Lisons 2023
$23.00Add to cartFor two generations the Plouzeaus have been working to restore the Château de la Bonneliére and its vines to their original glory. The son, Marc, converted the vineyards to fully organic.
The grapes for this wine come from vines that grow on an ancient riverbed and lend a distinct mineral quality to it.

The soils are well raised and gravelly producing classic Bordeaux aromas all in a balanced package. It’s lively and framed by a sensational texture and a lingering finish. While they make plenty of Sauvignon Blanc, their focus is not on producing easy SB, but on producing wines that transparently show where they are from. While 80% of their production is white wine the do produce this beautiful blend of Pinot and Gamay that is juicy and fresh. It has rich that are complemented by floral and earthy undertones. There’s a bit of spice inflection from the terroir that sits on a well of deep minerality.

$35.00Add to cartAn incredibly fun wine from one of the coolest collectives in the country: Virginia’s Common Wealth Crush. From former NYC somm Lee Campbell and partner Lee Jordan comes a beautifully bubbly red perfect for crushing with food. Like Lambrusco it’s incredibly food friendly, but unlike Lambrusco it’s made with the Virginia grape Tannat. It’s muscular but still bouncy and lightened with 12% Albariño and 9% Petit Manseng. What a fun thing to explore.

-
Coutale Clos La Cahors 2022
$23.00Add to cartThis is not the Malbec you probably know. You may not know that until it was popularized by the Argentinians, no one really knew the grape, and in fact most of the vines in Cahors, France were being ripped out. But as its international fame grew a few producers took a look at what they had and decided they could sell make wine with these grapes. We are thankful because this is a delicious, earthier expression that we really enjoy.

D Ventura Vina Do Burato Ribeira Sacra Mencia 2023
$28.00Add to cartFrom a producer who practices organic farming and preaches simplicity, this predominantly Mencia blend is just gorgeous. Earthy, chalky red fruits work harmoniously with schisty, stoney tones redolent of petrichor. Tremendously complex and undeniably delicious, we love this with Iberico ham, a sharp Manchego, or even beer-battered cod.
-
Dal Forno Romano Amarone Monte Lodoletta 2017 750ml
$504.00Add to cartThis is a wine that will reward patience.
