This "Golden Age" in New York's gay history is often overlooked, tucked between the headline historical events of Stonewall and AIDS. The project seeks to remedy that, revealing the gay 70's as a time of cultural explosion, joyful community building and rambunctious fighting with City Hall.
Through first hand interviews, The Bathhouse Podcast tells the largely untold story of the legendary Continental Baths at the Ansonia Hotel, the gay bathhouse at the epi-center of NYC cultural life - part-cabaret, part-disco, part-hotel. Where Bette Midler's career was born, the disco era first took root and a modern gay identity was born.
