4 Monos Viticultores Vinos De La Sierra De Gredos GR 10 Tinto 2021 1.5L
$60.00Add to cart4 Monos, which translates to 4 Monkeys, is a team of four friends who met while hiking in the Gredos mountains, one of the most profound interesting terroirs to emerge in recent years as we explore the more modern expressions of Spanish wine. An hour outside of Madrid, the Sierra de Gredos range has high elevation vineyards that are a collision of Mediterranean and Alpine influences. The organic grapes that go into the GR-10 are treated minimally, with a light hand in the cellar, resulting in a wine that’s affordable but still highly representative of the Sierra de Gredos terroir. It’s juicy, fruit forward, but still has an earthy complexity, and being in Magnum it’s easy to bring to a party.

Domaine de la Reniere Saumur Rouge 2023
Domaine de la Renière is a centuries old estate in Puy-Notre-Dame (south of Angers and Tours in the Loire Valley) that has been run by the young Thibault Masse and his partner Guillaume Poitevin since 2018. There’s an incredible energy to their wines and we can’t get enough of them. They are so incredibly drinkable for the price point—juicy, mineral-tinged, and complex all without breaking the bank. While many Cabernet Francs come with a little bit of bell pepper, or pyrazines for the science lovers, Thibault’s are pure fruit and chalk from his tuffeau soils.

Enric Soler ‘nun 2022
$115.00Add to cartFor twenty straight years, former Spanish champion sommelier Enric Soler has made wines that read like love letters. They are a public expression that Xarel-lo is worth time, effort, and attention. His zen-like focus on the grape has led to nicknames (The Iron Knight of Xarel-lo) and resounding accolades.
Xarel-lo is typically blended with Parellada and Macabeo in Catalunyan cavas, but in the right hands, it exhibits the balance and structure of the world’s great white wines.
Soler works his grandfather’s 78-year-old Xarel-lo vineyards (Vinyas del Taus) and a younger but more rural vineyard (Espenyalluchs) biodynamically with stunning results. His grandfather’s old bush-trained vines are surrounded by vibrant ground cover and lovingly tended. He waxes poetically about these vines saying that they are like us and that old people and vineyards need special attention and care. While the Espenyalluchs vineyard is younger, it’s easy to see the potential of the clay soils in this remote, high-altitude (400m) corner of Catalunya.
Like his farming, there is elegance, balance, and intention in every step of his winemaking process. He harnesses rich acidity and transforms the firm phenolics of the Xarel-lo grapes into character and structure through minimal but precise cellar treatments.
The resulting wines are concentrated and complex, aromatic with bright herbs and rich citrus, vibrant and energetic but still elegant with the structure to stand up to long cellar aging.
This 78-year-old plot has been farmed biodynamically since 2005 and produces Xarel-lo that, under Soler’s hands, is easily mistaken for excellent white Burgundy. For Nun, the grapes are hand-picked and sorted before being fermented with native yeasts in a blend of old (two-year-old) and new French oak. Aging takes place with zero battonage over eight months. Only 240 cases are produced.

Ridge Lytton Springs 2022
$89.00Add to cartThe Ridge Lytton Springs wine is the second step up in the storied producer’s Zinfandel offerings. Celebrating their 50th vintage from this old vine site (that already had 80 year old vines on the property) the wine is Zin dominant with a bit of Petite Sirah, Carignane, and a kiss of Alicante Bouschet. It has a complex nose of boysenberry, cigar box, anise and sage, and is full-bodied with mouth coating tannins and balanced acidity to round it out. Notes of plum, blackberry, mineral, pepper, and dark chocolate play on the tongue. Yum.

Rowan’s Creek Bourbon Whiskey 750ml
$53.00Add to cart“My staff pick is the Rowan’s Creek Kentucky Bourbon, produced by the Willet Distillery. I enjoy the robust caramel and vanilla notes with a distinctive floral undertone that adds depth to the flavor. This small batch of bourbon was initially aged with a 12-year statement but now is produced without an age declaration. Despite its 100.1 proof, the bourbon has a smoothness that makes it somewhat versatile. I recently paired the bourbon with pulled pork, and the rich fattiness brilliantly complemented the sweetness of the spirit.” – Steve

Textura Encoberta Tinto 2018
Textura comes from Marcelo Araujo, an incredibly passionate wine lover who launched the project in 2018 in the Dão region of Portugal with his family who relocated from Brazil. The vineyards are nestled against Portugals tallest inland mountain region (the Serra de Estrela) and produce incredible native varietals, even if you’ve never heard of the grapes they are growing.
The winemaking is led by Mariana Salvador with the consulting help of the legendary Luis Seabra who has trained the next generation of Portuguese winemakers focused on productions terroir-driven, complex wines. Clearly Mariana has talent as a winemaker (and student) and has made one of our favorite wines in the last few years.
Wine Enthusiast has this to say about this 2018 vintage: “An impressively rich wine, packed with firm tannins and structured black fruits. This is dense with pepper and spices along with succulent acidity.”

Vitícola Sileo, Montsant Sileo 2022
$27.00Add to cartIt’s often easy to overlook Montsant for the more well known Priorat, but we think that’s a mistake. The ring of hills that surround Priorat produce more subtle, elegant Grenaches that we can’t get enough of. We love Montsant because the elevation not only leaves the grapes with a notably higher acidity but with a freshness that comes from air moving around the hills as opposed to the valley floor. The Sileo (Latin for to be quiet) is a meditation on excellent and affordable Grenache from the family behind AT Roca and Anima Mundi who source organic grapes from calcareous soils. The wine is grippy with beautiful, lifted strawberry rhubarb pie that’s framed by flint. Delightful, expressive, and very fun.
