Castelfeder Kerner “Lahn”
$29.00Add to cartHeading into Alto Adige (the far northern, semi-autonomous region of Italy that borders Austria) is like stepping into German wine country. The grapes for this Kerner grow at an altitude of almost 900m above sea level in one of the highest vineyards in South Tyrol. This German grape is a cross between Trollinger and Riesling and is named after the Swabian poet Justinus Kerner. It’s got great acidity, a vibrant freshness, and rich lemon, peach, and mango flavors.

Domaine des Baumard Clos du Papillon 2018
$78.00Add to cartThe wines from Clos du Papillon (so-named for its unique butterfly shape) is one of the great examples of Savennières. Overwhelming orchard fruit, white flowers, earthy minerality, and striking acid make this an adventure every time.
-
Domaine des Baumard Savennieres 2018 375 ml
$25.00Add to cartBaumard’s Savennières are enthralling and worth the wait to age, but are so enticing it’s hard to want to wait. The piercing minerality is offset by a deep ripeness with distinct flavors of stone fruits, spices and honey. These are special wines from a stellar producer that should be savored, but not in any precious way. A 375mL will be a perfect individual portion to get a taste of just how good the ground floor is at Baumard and give a peek at how high the highs can be.

Feudi Branciforti dei Bordonaro Terre Siciliane Grillo 2021
$19.00Add to cartAn ancient grape variety that doesn’t get enough press. This is a pure example that captures the freshness Grillo can have in the right hands. The location of the vineyard gives fantastic sunshine and the altitude slows down the development. The result is herbal but still refreshing.

Foxen Chenin Blanc Ernesto Wickenden Vineyard 2023
$39.00Add to cartFoxen is a legend in Santa Barbara wine country. Founded by Dick Doré and Bill Wathen in the late 70s it wasn’t until the late 80’s that they got their license (the 13th in the region which now is home to over 200). They work with some of the best fruit in the region where winemaker David Whitehair seeks to express the fruit cleanly.
This wine (and all the estate fruit) is an anomaly in the region as Foxen has own-rooted, dry farmed grapes on their estate. The fact that they can do this is quite frankly wild. In a place where pretty much everyone irrigates they don’t have to. The quirks of geography can be a funny thing. This chenin is proof that great wines can come from unlikely corners of the world.

Foxen Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir 2020
$50.00Add to cartFoxen is a legend in Santa Barbara wine country. Founded by Dick Doré and Bill Wathen in the late 70s it wasn’t until the late 80’s that they got their license (the 13th in the region which now is home to over 200). They work with some of the best fruit in the region where winemaker David Whitehair seeks to express the fruit cleanly. This fruit comes from the cooler pinot plots of Santa Maria which is closer to the coast than Foxen Canyon. The wine is a delightful pinot with all the hallmarks of fruit that benefits from a big shift between the night and day temperatures, and like all great Santa Barbara wines there’s a distinct tell of salinity.

Kapistoni Budeshuri Saperavi 2020

In a time before barrels winemakers in Georgia worked fermenting their wines in clay pots lined with beeswax. This Saperavi is deep, dark, and brooding and gets all its delightful texture from that clay qvevri. If you’ve never had a wine like this, this is a great one to start you off on a delicious journey!
