We love Monteraponi. An ancient village just outside of Radda, in the huge natural amphitheater that is Monteraponi, only 25 acres out of the few hundred are planted with vines. The wines are at once new, and influenced by Burgundy and the Piedmont, but maintain a strong sense of personality that is equal parts tradition, character and allure. This wine follows the Monteraponi scrips: tightly acidic, slightly floral, laced with minerals and exuding elegance. 90% Sangiovese it is full of ripe berries, the aromas of the forest floor, and subtle herbs. The palate has bit more juiciness that is accented by the acidity and the cherry, raspberry and bold orange swirl around a finish that contains just a hint of salinity. This deeply layered wine opens up with time in the glass.
