This wine comes from the storied hands of Maurice Rollin whose lutte raisonee approach to their vineyards are all designed to maximize the incredible Burgundian terroirs he is working with. The grapes for this Corton Charlemagne bottling come from two parcels (totaling up to about an acre of land) from the “Le Charlemagne” site in Aloxe-Corton and “En Charlemagne” on the Pernand side of the hill. They are vinified separately and blended before bottling. 50% new oak and about a year on the lees add texture and complexity. The wine is full of yellow apples, jasmine, and lemon lime scents that sit above a hint of almond and rocks. There’s tension and great acidity here on the finish followed by more of that stony minerality.
