La Rivolta Fiano 2022
$28.00Add to cartIn antiquity, the Fiano grape was known as apiana, as its sweet berries were attractive to bees. Vines were traditionally found near hazelnut orchards, which has seemingly influenced the grape’s flavor profile. However, it is in the town of Avellino where the Fiano grape produces its most mineral-driven wines with long aging potential.
The Cotroneo family has embraced a sustainable approach to viticulture, and the beautiful organic vineyards of Fattoria La Rivolta are nestled among the picturesque and mountainous landscapes of Campania’s Taburno DOC, one of the smallest in Sicily. The wines they produce are delicious.
This is a beautifully delicate wine, with hints of fresh fruit, almond, hazelnut, citrus fruits, herbs, white flowers, and dried flowers. On the palate, this is a full-bodied wine with light fruit and floral notes.

That’s not to say that they aren’t controversial. They produce wines that are typically more Burgundian or even (gasp) Piedmontese than some of their neighbors but that doesn’t make them any less delightful. They retain acidity, florals, minerality, and a restrained elegance that lifts the palate.
This is their take at classic Chianti Classico. It’s mostly Sangiovese with a touch of Canaiolo and Colorino,and it’s delicious while still being light on its feet (for Riserva Chianti).
