Patrick Piuze Chablis 1er Cru Montmains 2023
$90.00Add to cartPatrick Piuze, originally of Montreal (not all winemakers working in France are French), worked for some of the greats like Leflaive, Jean-Marc Brocard and Jean-Marie Guffens before starting his own label in 2008. It may be from Guffens that he picked up some of his iconoclastic ways like hand picking his sourced fruit and fermenting the wines spontaneously. The Montmains fruit comes from all three subclimates of Montmains: Butteaux, Forets, and Montmains. He gets fruit from a half a hectare and this wine tends to be the most austere of the three as there is very little topsoil and the vines grow right on the bedrock.

Philip Togni Tanbark Hill Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
$125.00Add to cartPhilip Togni has been working the vineyards and cellars of Napa for a long, long time—including making the 1969 Chappellet which is widely considered one of if not the greatest wine to come from California. We are thrilled to have a few of his wines. Here are the words of other major critics on just how important he is:“No one is more deserving of this success than Philip Togni, who has made some of the all-time great Napa Valley Cabernets going back to the late 1960s” – Antonio Gallioni“Cabernet enthusiasts who have not yet discovered Philip Togni should be on a crusade for his wines, which will handsomely repay extended cellaring.” – Robert Parker“They are tensile and savory, dark-fruited and cedar-edged, showing the broad, ripe structure that shows mastery with this particular grape. They routinely last 20 years or more, matching the toughness of great old Bordeaux with a Napan generosity.” – Jon BonneThis is his more entry level wine but is a picture into the Napa Valley of the past.

Prost Pfalz Pinot Noir 2022
$22.00Add to cartThis Pinot Noir comes from an importer who works with wineries where they have good relationships to source grapes. The region it hails from is the Pfalz which is Bordered by Rheinhessen on the north and France on the south and west, the Pfalz’s vineyards sweep across this remarkably pretty, peaceful land for nearly 90 uninterrupted kilometres with views of the tree-covered Haardt mountain range, castle ruins, fruit trees, and old walled villages of half-timbered houses. The wine is light and chillable but is just as good at cellar temperatures.

Ridge Lytton Springs 2022
$89.00Add to cartIs Ridge the best American producer? Maybe, the Montebello is a truly transcendent bottle of wine.
The Ridge Lytton Springs wine is the second step up in the storied producer’s Zinfandel offerings. Celebrating their 50th vintage from this old vine site (that already had 80 year old vines on the property) the wine is Zin dominant with a bit of Petite Sirah, Carignane, and a kiss of Alicante Bouschet. It has a complex nose of boysenberry, cigar box, anise and sage, and is full-bodied with mouth coating tannins and balanced acidity to round it out. Notes of plum, blackberry, mineral, pepper, and dark chocolate play on the tongue. Yum.

Ridge Three Valleys Sonoma County 2021
$45.00Add to cartIs Ridge the best American producer? Maybe, the Montebello is a truly transcendent bottle of wine.
The Three Valleys bottling is the perfect intro to Zinfandel. It’s big and plummy and generous. It’s a fun, full-bodied bottle that showcases what Zin can be in the right hands.
This is a perfect choice if you are happy with the warmer weather but still want something dark and even a little brooding. It’s like curling up with a good crime drama. I’d recommend pairing it with Elaine May’s Mikey & Nicky.
