Historically the Roncaglie vineyard has been regarded as one of the best vineyards in Barbaresco, though it was rarely bottled on its own until Poderi Colla arrived in 1995. On the southern end of Barbaresco, the name Roncaglia comes from the Latin word “Roncaleis” meaning “steep road”, a nod to the drastic landscape when compared with the more common rolling hills of the Langhe. The grapes are macerated for 2-3 weeks then aged for one year in botti and 1-2 years in bottle before release.
