Yalumba
Blending Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz Since 1849
Established in 1849, Yalumba is Australia’s most historic family owned wine company. It remains fiercely independent and extremely progressive through the generational ownership by the Hill-Smith family. Yalumba’s Menzies Estate Vineyard lies in the heart of Coonawarra on the famous terra rossa soil over limestone. This valuable patch of land is the holy grail of all Cabernet purists; just 2 kilometres wide and 20 kilometres long, with soil vivid red in color.
The heart of Yalumba's legacy remains its iconic blends of Cabernet and Shiraz. The blending of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz is a distinctly Australian winemaking practice, producing striking reds that cannot be replicated in France, Germany or Italy due to strict controls around regional blending. Since the 1800s they have been one of the most dedicated pioneers of this method.
Yalumba has been making wine utilizing ‘wild yeast’ for over 20 years. They believe that the success and consistency that we have with wild ferments is a direct result of healthy biodiverse vineyards. All Yalumba wines are 100% vegan since the 2012 vintage, elevating their wines to a safe and ethical choice. With ancient vines sustained by the world's oldest soils and enriched by the craftsmanship of generations, Yalumba is writing the next chapter in Australia's fine wine story – a future for the wine world that thrives with authenticity, diversity, and distinction.
