Vicus
A Woman-Owned Estate in the Heart of Irpinia
Vicus is produced from the estate vineyards of Tenuta Cavalier Pepe, a family-run winery in Irpinia in the heart of one of the most fertile wine regions of Italy. In the Irpinia region, the presence of the Pepe family can be traced back to the 13th century. Entrepreneur Angelo Pepe, following his intuition and driven by a love for his land, worked hard to write the next chapter in the family’s history. The result was Tenuta Cavalier Pepe. Today, his eldest daughter Milena leads the family estate with charisma and expertise, ensuring that the wines meet the highest standards.
The Pepe family vineyards reside in the best DOCGs; Taurasi, Avellino, and Tufo, and the Irpinia DOC at elevations between 1200-1700 feet above sea level on volcanic and calcareous soils. With 70 hectares of vineyards, the company offers a wide range of Campanian and Irpinian wines: reds, whites, rosés, sparkling wines, and a passito wine.
All grapes are harvested by hand. The vinification takes place almost exclusively in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Their fine red wines, after fermentation, mature in wood. The aging period in wood varies from 12 to 18 months depending on the type and vintage. In wood, the wine matures and evolves through micro-oxygenation, enhancing its bouquet and naturally stabilizing its color.
