Roederer Estate

French Tradition Combined with California Terroir

Founded in 1982, Roederer Estate is nestled in Mendocino County’s cool, fog-shrouded Anderson Valley. As the northern California outpost of Champagne Louis Roederer, it builds upon a centuries-old tradition of advanced viticulture and fine winemaking. With 600 acres of proprietary vineyards, it is among the very few American sparkling wine houses that only sources estate-grown fruit. Special oak-aged reserve wines are added to each blend in both the multi-vintage and vintage cuvées, which are 100% estate-bottled.

Jean-Claude Rouzaud, former president of Champagne Louis Roederer, understood that first-rate estate vineyards create exceptional sparkling wines, which is why he selected the Anderson Valley property in 1982. The valley’s close proximity to the Pacific Ocean creates a distinctive climate, making it the coolest wine-growing region in California. This allows grapes to ripen slowly, developing complexity and balanced acidity. The diverse terrain ranges from sea level to 2,500 feet in elevation, with soils formed from weathered sandstone, mudstone, and alluvial deposits—providing an ideal foundation for grape growing.

Tim Fish of the Wine Spectator described the estate as “...arguably the best and most consistent sparkling wine producer on the West Coast.” Built on estate-grown fruit and meticulous craftsmanship, Roederer Estate continues to refine the artistry of fine sparkling wine under the leadership of Frédéric Rouzaud, the seventh-generation head of Champagne Louis Roederer.
