Raventos i Blanc
Five Centuries of Winegrowing, Tradition, and Family
Raventós i Blanc is a winery with one of the longest documented winegrowing traditions in the world. The estate, which has belonged to the Raventós family since 1497, covers 300 acres of vineyards, woodlands and a lake in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia in Spain. Today, Pepe Raventós, who represents the twenty-first generation of the family, farms 44 plots using biodynamic winegrowing methods and is committed to maintaining the estate and producing an exceptional sparkling wine.
The estate enjoys a specific microclimate influenced by the river, a lake, two streams and a hill known as the Turó del Serral. Their soils are calcareous with marine fossils, and have excellent water reserves for winegrowing due to the proportion of clay, lime, and sand, as well as the generous depth of the earth. It is a 100% biodynamic estate and is self-sufficient, where agriculture is combined with livestock rearing creating a circle of life: soil, climate, plants, animals. They look after their land and animals using homeopathic medicines and organic products and use animal and plant fertilisers made on the farm itself.
The minimum ageing period of 18 months resting on the lees gives their sparkling wines an optimal balance between an expression of their origin and the vines, fully conveying the characteristics of the terroir. During the ageing process, the bubbles are refined and integrated into the wine, becoming smaller and more pleasant. The yeast autolysis also occurs, producing different molecules that give their sparkling wines creaminess and volume.
