P. Jaboulet
Two Exceptional Families Serving the Terroir Since 1834
Founded in 1834, the Paul Jaboulet Aîné house oversees an exceptional heritage that brings together the most famous terroirs of the Northern Rhône Valley. Antoine Jaboulet founded this estate in Tain l’Hermitage and the Jaboulet family continued to manage the winery until 2006 when it was purchased by the Frey family.
The Northern Rhône is known for its steep slopes and narrow terraces, with a continental climate of cold winters and hot summers. The famed Mistral wind helps cool the grapes during these hot summers, and keep the vines dry. The Hermitage appellation is a single 650 ft hill above the Rhône River. Four geological eras merge at this one point (granite from the primary era, fragments of limestone from the secondary era, hills from the tertiary era, and glaciations from the ice ages), creating the varied and complex terroir that has made Hermitage an iconic appellation.
The 105 hectares of vineyards that P. Jaboulet manages lies within this appellation. Winemaker Caroline Frey began transitioning this land to organic and biodynamic farming, with the estate being officially organic certified since 2016, and following biodynamic practices since 2021. They aim to preserve and regenerate soils and have strategically planted trees and shrubs around their vineyards. An eco-responsible estate, P. Jaboulet uses recyclable components for their corks, bottles, and shipping materials, and makes efforts to reduce resource consumption all around.
