Licia

A Sustainable Vineyard Estate With an Atlantic Influence

DO Rias Baixas, located in Galicia in northwest Spain, is known for its lush green landscape, Atlantic influence, and fjord-like mountainous inlets dotting the coastline called ‘rias.’ The region’s maritime climate results in wine with refreshing acidity and greenness.

While the area is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Miño River, its hillside location sits at an altitude between 200 and 350 meters where the vines are not affected by fog or cold temperatures found on the peaks. Its southern orientation ensures good sun exposure, which contributes to the ideal ripening of grapes.

Soils are granitic, sandy and very permeable, producing very fine wines with balanced acidity. The region's mild temperatures during the summer allow for a slow and gentle ripening of the grapes and help to conserve fruity aromas. Sustainable viticulture practices have led to the vineyards to become a natural habitat for over 160 species of flora and fauna, enriching the vines from the roots with biological wealth. After harvesting and destemming, the grapes are pressed and the must falls via gravity through an oxygen free atmosphere into stainless steel maceration vats.
