Leitz
Johannes Leitz assumed responsibility of the family winery at the age of 21, after completing his training as a master vintner, with just 2.9 hectares of vineyards. Today, the Leitz wine estate ranks among the leading producers in the Rheingau. The vineyard area comprises around 90 hectares throughout the Rheingau, plus an additional 18 hectares of steep-slope vineyards in Rüdesheim am Rhein. Wines by Johannes Leitz are sought after worldwide. For several years now, Antonius Leitz, the son of Johannes Leitz, has also been working at the family estate, carrying the tradition into the next generation.
Their goal is to work in harmony with nature and preserve soil fertility for future generations. Gentle pruning lays the foundation for healthy shoots, balanced yields, and resilient vines. A key component of their sustainable philosophy is producing their own compost from pomace, allowing the return of valuable nutrients to the soil.
Leitz places the highest value on the gentle processing of the grapes. Depending on the vintage, they are either pressed directly or undergo a period of skin contact to fully develop their aromatic potential. All of their must is carefully clarified through natural sedimentation, allowing suspended solids to settle naturally. They deliberately avoid unnecessary intervention in order to preserve the purity and character of the wines. Fermentation is carefully controlled, giving each wine the time it needs to develop harmoniously and unfold its full potential.
