Le Potazzine

Well-Aged Brunello From a Family Estate

“Potazzine” is the Italian word for the very colorful and vivacious birds which inhabit the Tuscan countryside. It’s also the family nickname for the daughters of Gigliola Giannetti, founder and owner of this estate. Created in 1993, today it is composed of five hectares of vineyards registered in Brunello, just south of Montalcino, three of which are located in the proximity of the winery, 507 meters above sea level, with an age average of 14 years. The rest are located in the area of Sant’Angelo in Colle, about 420 meters above sea level, planted in 1996.

The goal pursued since the first winemaking in Le Potazzine was to produce wine in the most natural way possible, seeking balance, elegance and a strong personality. Certified organic, the estate produces about 3,000 cases yearly. Their Sangiovese is fermented naturally, in contact with the grape skins, before an extended aging process. The company has always used Slavonic oak barrels for the aging of its wines. Brunello usually ages in cask about 40 months, while the Brunello Reserve rests in the wood for about 60 months.
