Koshi No Iso

A Small Brewery Along Japan's East Coast

Koshi No Iso Brewery was founded in 1909 along the ocean coast of Echizen in Fukui Prefecture.  Post-War, the brewery was relocated approximately 30km inland.  Founded in an area bountiful with seafood from the Sea of Japan, much of Koshi No Iso’s flavor profile reflects the terroir of the coastal village.  To this day a family-operated brewery, Koshi No Iso is a small batch producer that focuses only on non-fortified pure rice sake.  In 1998, the brewery began beer production efforts focused on using only locally-sourced Fukui Prefecture malt and applying sake brewing principles such as non-charcoal filtration to its production.
