Josep Foraster

A Winery of Reference for the Trepat Variety

Josep Foraster is a family-run winery located in Montblanc, in the Conca de Barberà DO, where they cultivate their own vineyards organically. They primarily work with native varieties, such as Trepat and Macabeu. Fermentation is spontaneous to fully express the essence of the land. At this estate, they have vineyards and olive groves documented since 1828.

Josep Foraster Rosello's son, also named Josep Foraster (1960-1999), conceived the winery renovation and began producing the first wine in 1998. Josep Foraster sadly passed away in 1999. At this point, Julieta Foraster (1953) decided to continue her brother's project together with her husband, Josep Lluís. Julieta's son, Ricard Sebastià Foraster, studied oenology and took over the winery in 2005. From this point on, organic viticulture began to be used, and old vines were sought for the production of minimal intervention wines.

The vineyards are located in a valley surrounded by mountain ranges (Serra Miramar & Montanas de Prades) at an altitude of 400 m to 600 m, 30 km from the sea, sharing its southern border with Priorat and Montsant. The high elevation of Conca de Barbera, combined with the cool sea breeze from the Mediterranean sea, allows the grape to retain acidity during ripening season producing fresher wine with structure and elegance.
