Jean-Marc Brocard
Three Generations of Family Passion and a Deep Respect for Nature
Founded in 1974, the Jean-Marc Brocard vineyard is the most diverse family-owned wine estate in Chablis. Jean-Marc Brocard was introduced to the vine by his wife, and in 1973 he planted his first vines in Préhy and built a winery there.
Today, the family vineyard is one of the leading estates in Chablis and Burgundy cultivating its vines using organic farming practices, with 60 hectares certified organic and 40 hectares certified biodynamic. Committed to nature, the estate filters its water through constructed wetlands, enabling them to reuse treated water for irrigation and other ecological needs. The Jean-Marc Brocard vineyard has also launched an extensive vitiforestry project, planting 30,000 trees. These trees absorb rainfall, store it, and gradually release it into the soil, thereby contributing to the replenishment of groundwater and helping to prevent droughts. By developing these natural water reserves, they actively contribute to combating climate change while ensuring water availability for future generations.
Biodynamics guides their approach to the wine, helping to fully express its potential, balance, and unique character. From the reception of the grapes to the settling of the must, every transfer is done by gravity—without pumping or human intervention. Aging takes place on the lees for 6 to 24 months to preserve the freshness, minerality, and expression of each cuvée’s terroir. Each vessel is selected according to the nature of the wine, the length of its aging, and its potential: stainless steel tanks, oak casks, oak barrels, or stoneware amphorae. Fermentation is monitored daily, and each wine is tasted and analyzed monthly, allowing every action to be adapted precisely.
