Henri Boillot

Father and Son Winemakers Interpreting the Terroir of Puligny and Volnay

This domain was established by Henri Boillot's grandfather at the beginning of the twentieth century. Based in Meursault, Domaine Henri Boillot is strategically placed between Puligny-Montrachet and Volnay, the two appellations that have become its specialty. The domain has set itself a firm objective: to express, through its wines, the essence of the vines and their distinctive climates.

Puligny-Montrachet is one of the most famous villages in the côte de Beaune. Its exceptional terroir and clay-limestone soil produces complex, elegant white wines. Volnay is renowned for wines characterized by their delicate complexity. Its steep, narrow vineyards and limestone and schist soil Volnay have produced fine, concentrated wines.

Henri’s son Guillaume is now in charge of the red wines at the domain, while Henri still produces the whites. To make great wines is the single objective of this energetic duo. They have a strong philosophy of non-intervention, choosing to interfere with the growing process as little as possible; only a select few are permitted access to the vines. The same belief applies to their aging process, believing only the gentlest of attention is all that is necessary. Through an emphasis on traditional methods of vinification and aging, Domaine Boillot highlights both its terroir and the distinct personality of its winemakers: two essential ingredients for making complex, charismatic wines.
