It was in 1975, in the vines of the Château de Villemajou in the heart of the Corbières that Gérard Bertrand harvested his first grapes and discovered his passion for wine. He perfected his apprenticeship during twelve years at the side of his father Georges Bertrand. It is in this spirit that he took over the family torch at Domaine de Villemajou after the accidental death of his father in 1987. Five years later, he created the Gérard Bertrand wine company in order to develop a range of wines from the South of France.
Today, at the head of several emblematic estates, he works to promote the Mediterranean art of living and the uniqueness of Languedoc wines worldwide. At each of his estates, Gérard Bertrand has created exceptional wines from unique plots of land chosen from the finest terroirs in the Languedoc. These parcels, selected for their exceptional ampelographic and climatic situation, are positioned as grand crus of the South of France, the quintessence of Languedoc terroir.
A committed winemaker and ambassador for the great terroirs of the South of France, Gérard Bertrand embodies excellence and innovation in the world of wine. He has been committed since 2002 to the path of biodynamic viticulture. In 2024, Bertrand's operations achieved recognition as the largest certified biodynamic vineyard in the world.
