Francois Labet
Three Centuries in Beaune, Reimagined by François Labet
Francois Labet is the most recent generation producer of Burgundy Regional Appellations, and current owner of Chateau de La Tour Clos-Vouegot. The Labet family has lived in Beaune for 300 years and has been making wine under their label since the 1980s. François has overseen the two family estates since 1987, and never satisfied with the status quo, he decided to make wines under his own name, Franois Labet. He makes a Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Côte de Beaune and a Pinot Noir from Corsica. All vineyards are estate owned, organic and hand tended.
The Corsica Estate is located on the geological fault line separating southern Corsica and Upper Corsica. This vineyard of 35 acres in the foothills is composed of metamorphic rocks. Vines here enjoy exceptional sunshine and a climate tempered by the proximity of the sea and the mountain barrier (of 1,800 feet of altitude). This soil enables the emblematic grape variety Pinot Noir of the Bourgogne region to express itself fully by offering unique and original expressions in Corsica.
The Burgundy wines are sourced from Côte de Beaune which boasts soil composed of clay, gravel, and limestone. They employ manual harvest with grapes carried in small broached plastic cases, later utilizing pneumatic pressing and fermentation in oak battles before bottling with a light filtration. Beaune offers high-quality, underappreciated wines at a modest price. François Labet knows how to bring the notion of terroir alive and grant it what it should always be: an element of his freedom.
