Winemaker Ryan Alfaro grew up on his parents' vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Being immersed in the family business his entire life, it was no surprise he developed a passion for wine. Alfaro studied at UCLA and later completed a Post-Grad in Wine Science at the University of Auckland before returning home to become head-winemaker at Alfaro Family Vineyards.
While honing his skills at Alfaro Family Vineyards, Ryan decided to create his own label, Farm Cottage Wines. The 2019 vintage marked the inaugural year of Farm Cottage Wines. The history behind the "Farm Cottage" label dates back to over 100 years ago when the original owners built a cottage out of heart redwood on the land. The Alfaro family purchased this cottage and it is now where Ryan develops his tasting palate.
Grapes are planted on three different vineyards where elevation ranges from between 450 and 800 feet above sea level. All are planted to sandy loam soil near the Santa Cruz Mountains. The vineyards are planted to a mix of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah.
