Famille Perrin
An Estate Uniting Thirteen Grape Varieties in a Singular Style
An estate with worldwide recognition, Château de Beaucastel’s history dates back to 1549, when Pierre de Beaucastel purchased the land. Today, the fourth and fifth generation of Perrins run the famed wine estate. The vineyards are located on historic land where each of the 13 approved grape varietals of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation are planted. Château de Beaucastel covers 315 acres, of which 250 acres are planted; the remaining 75 acres are farmed with rotated crops to prepare new vineyard plantings.
Beaucastel’s terroir is composed of marine molasses (sandstone) covered by alpine alluvium. Its meso-climate plays an important role with a low rainfall, beautiful sunshine, and spectacular temperature differences. The Mistral wind that blows through dries and cleans the vines planted in traditional gobelet style. They are in the process of renovating and rebuilding the winery’s cellar with an ecological focus, including a project to harness the cooling effect of the region's wind to limit the use of artificial air conditioning.
At Beaucastel, the wines are not dominated by the powerful Grenache. It’s all about harnessing Grenache and sublimating it. The blending is privileged with a unique know-how, passed down from generation to generation. Oak aging is not dominant here; the authenticity of the grape varieties and terroir take the major roles. By continuing the tradition of blending the 13 historical varieties, Château de Beaucastel has an unmatched style, making wines with a unique and exceptional mix of power, structure, elegance, and freshness.
