Domaine Les Aphillanthes

A Biodynamic Fourth-Generation Rhône Valley Estate

Domaine Les Aphillanthes from Travaillan is situated just northwest of Gigondas. The 4th generation at the domaine, grower and winemaker Daniel Boulle's terroir-driven southern Rhône wines are models of attention and balance - perfect fruit to optimally minute yields.

Daniel inherited the estate's 10 hectares in 1987 and has increased it by acquiring exceptional parcels, including one in Rasteau planted in 1921. Today, the vineyard spans 40 hectares and comprises a diverse array of grape varieties and appellations. The plots are tended to meticulously. The vines grow as deep as 30 meters (100 feet).

Since 2003, the estate has followed biodynamic principles and since 2007, the domaine has been certified as biodynamic (Biodivin) and organic (ECOCERT). Part of the vineyard is reserved for experiments to constantly improve the cultivation of the vine and advance the quality of the wines. With minimal intervention in the winery, fermentation is in concrete vats; the wine is subject to gravity only. No filtration.
