Domaine du Bagnol, named after the district where it is located, is one of the oldest estates in the Cassis region and also one of the very first to be established there. The modern history of Domaine de Bagnol began in 1997 when Jean-Louis Genovesi took the helm. Driven by a deep love for the town of Cassis, Jean-Louis set out to improve wine quality by modernizing the facilities, while also revitalizing the estate’s image by infusing it with freshness and lightness. Jean-Louis and his son, Sebastien, have revived the domaine and the wines, both blanc and rose, are more compelling than ever.
Le Bagnol covers 23 hectares, situated right next to the village center, stretching along a small valley and across hillsides that slope down toward the sea. The domaine sits just beneath the imposing limestone outcropping of Cap Canaille and is a mere 200 meters distance from the shores of the Mediterranean.
The estate’s soils are predominantly clay-limestone, with varying degrees of marl depending on the specific plot. This diversity imparts distinct nuances to the wines—ranging from light and fruity to saline or iodine-rich notes. These soil characteristics influence production and determine the grape varieties best suited for crafting exceptional vintages.
