Domaine de la Romanée-Conti
A Domaine Considered the Pinnacle of Bourgogne
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti produces some of the world’s most revered wines from its tiny vineyards in the Côte-d'Or. This domaine boasts a storied history that dates back to the 13th century when the vineyard Romanée-Conti was first mentioned on record. It was really in 1869 when the current estate began to take shape under the ownership of Jacques-Marie Duvault-Blochet. His descendants have managed the estate since. Today, under the direction of Bertrand de Villaine and Perrine Fenal, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is synonymous with the pinnacle of Bourgogne wine, celebrated for its meticulous biodynamic viticulture and the unparalleled quality of its wines.
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti holds a prestigious collection of vineyards in Bourgogne, all classified as Grands Crus. The estate encompasses approximately 25 hectares, with its flagship Romanée-Conti vineyard covering 1.81 hectares, and La Tâche, another monopole, extending over 6.06 hectares.
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti adheres to a philosophy of minimal intervention, emphasizing the purity and expression of the terroir. Their winemaking process starts with meticulous hand-harvesting of grapes, which are then sorted rigorously to ensure only the best quality fruit is used. Fermentation occurs naturally with indigenous yeasts in wooden vats, followed by aging in new French oak barrels for an extended period, which varies by vintage but can last up to 15-18 months.
