DeForville

A Barbaresco Estate with Ancient Soil and a Distinct Seasonal Climate

The DeForville family emigrated to Piedmont from Belgium in 1848 and established themselves in the village of Barbaresco in 1860. Now more than 150 years old and managed by the family’s fifth generation, the estate produces about 8000 cases annually.

The nearly 11 hectare domaine is divided between holdings in the villages of Barbaresco and Castagnole Lanze where vines range from 25-40 years old. The family production is supplemented by purchases of grapes from growers with whom the family has long ties, usually over multiple generations.

The production area of Barbaresco is made up of a soil of clayish marl that was formed about forty million years ago, with minerals that give the grapes unique aromas and characteristics for very full-bodied wines. The continental microclimate, with warm summers, cold and snowy winters, mild temperatures in spring and autumn, together with localized breezes and haze, form a perfect alchemy for a pleasant Barbaresco with balanced tannins, as well as for a harmonic and rounded Dolcetto.
