Many domaines in Burgundy can trace their roots back over 100 years, but only a handful can claim more than 200 years of history. Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé can trace a line back over 550 years, to 1450 and the Chambolle vines of one Jean Moisson. Though they lost their noble titles, they managed to retain their land through the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror. That land accounts for approximately 70% of the Grand Cru Musigny vineyard.

Highly regarded as the greatest estate in Chambolle Musigny, today the domaine is headed by its 20th generation – Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette, the granddaughters of the late Comte Georges de Vogüé.

The grapes for these wines are completely destemmed, and there is no whole-bunch fermentation. The winery follows the philosophy of lutte raisonnée, ensuring all vines are ploughed and kept free from chemical fertilizers. Herbs are planted between rows to control pests, and strict pruning is practiced. Aging occurs in oak, of which only 15–35% is new. These are elegant wines with a deceptive concentration. They never feel heavy, yet they possess a perfect balance in their linearity. The aromatics are truly divine.
