Codigo
Once the Most Selective Tequila in the World
Codigo prides itself in striving to make Código 1530 the most selective tequila in the world, using only perfect inputs and age-old secret family processes. For generations, only a select group of Mexico’s most respected families and Los Bajos’ finest jimadors had the privilege of tasting El Tequila Privado, a private recipe from a little distillery in Amatitán. For the first time, those who have enjoyed this private, previously nameless tequila are sharing with the world what is now known as Código 1530.
Their tequila begins with fully-matured agave, which is cooked in stainless steel ovens, fermented with yeast, and distilled twice in handmade stills. They hand-select the best, fully-matured agave to ensure that the agave’s Brix level (sugar content) meets their standards and produces a better-tasting, smoother tequila. They make each batch without any added sweeteners or colors.
Each drop of Amatitán water used is from freshwater pools and rainwater, all filtered through the volcanic soil of Los Bajos. Their proprietary chopper allows them to extract only the best juice and pulp from the first press of ripe agave, to garner the purest flavor. Local yeast is used to facilitate the fermentation process. While most tequila is aged in American whiskey barrels, theirs is aged in Napa Valley Cabernet French White Oak wine barrels. This difference allows them to embrace the clean elegance of winemaking and produce a uniquely delicate finish.
