Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste

Classic, Dimensional Wines From a Pauillac Estate

This estate was first passed down from generation to generation within the same lineage dating back to the 16th century. Since 1978, it has belonged to the Borie family. The ninety hectares of land of Grand-Puy-Lacoste are located in the Pauillac appellation, stretching out harmoniously and without discontinuity, sixty-four of which are planted with vines. The vineyard has achieved a harmonious balance between young and old vines, with an average age of thirty-eight years. Cabernet Sauvignon, the preeminent noble grape variety that serves as the backbone of the domain's wines, accounts for the majority (75%). Merlot (20%) and Cabernet Franc (5%) add nuance to the blends and enhance the distinctive character of the wine.

Grand-Puy-Lacoste fervently practices sustainable winegrowing: over the past twenty years, treatments have been reduced by half, and no insecticides have been used in the last decade. The soil has consistently been worked solely by machinery. The vineyard sits atop soils of sand and a touch of clay, which provide excellent drainage and moderate temperature extremes. Influenced by the nearby Gironde estuary and Atlantic Ocean, the estate benefits from maritime winds that maintain a specific humidity and moderates temperatures.

In the cellar, fermentation and maceration lead to the critical blending stage in December, guided by the collective expertise of the Borie family and a dedicated technical team. The finished blend is aged for sixteen to eighteen months in fine-grained French oak barrels, two-thirds of them new, in a temperature- and humidity-controlled cellar.
