Chappellet

One of Napa Valley’s Most Iconic Mountain Vineyards

Chappellet is recognized as one of the great Napa Valley wineries, and one of the few which remains family owned. Founded by Molly and Donn Chappellet in 1967, today a second generation of the Chappellet family has embraced the mountain’s exceptional terroir and is committed to stewarding their father’s vision for generations to come.

Rising from 800 to 1,800 feet above sea level, the Chappellet Estate Vineyard on Pritchard Hill has earned global acclaim for yielding grapes that produce mountain-grown wines of rare depth, longevity and elegance. Pritchard Hill’s distinctive terroir presents a variety of elevations, exposures and soil structures offering unique growing environments. The source of some of the world’s finest mountain-grown Cabernet Sauvignons, Pritchard Hill has been dubbed “Napa Valley’s Rodeo Drive” and “Napa Valley’s Grand Cru”. The Chappellet team cultivates the estate as 48 individual blocks, each highlighting various soil types, elevations, exposures and grades. This mosaic of micro-vineyards features a wealth of varieties, clones and rootstocks for their winemaking team to work with.

Beginning in the early 1980s this estate was one of the first wineries to plant cover crops as a method for soil conservation and erosion prevention. 100% of the grapes grown on the estate vineyard come from blocks that are farmed using organic methods. In 2012, the entire vineyard, totaling 104 acres, finished an extensive three-year certification process with the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) and is now certified organic.
