Champagne Louis Roederer

A House of Unmatched Quality and Excellence

Originally founded in 1776, Champagne Louis Roederer continues as one of the very rare Champagne houses to remain firmly in the hands of the same family, since 1832. When he inherited the Champagne House in 1833, the aesthete and entrepreneur Louis Roederer took a visionary approach to enriching his vines, aiming to master every stage of the wine’s creation. While other Houses at the time bought their grapes, Louis Roederer nurtured his vineyards, familiarized himself with the specific characteristics of each parcel, and methodically acquired the finest land, forging the wine’s unique style, character, and taste.

For three centuries, seven successive generations have been responsible for building a reputation for unparalleled quality and continuity. Their plot-by-plot approach to vine cultivation accounts for the specificities of the different soils, enabling them to produce

exceptionally mature grapes. Its focus on meticulous viticulture, best demonstrated with an ongoing organic and biodynamic conversion to its vineyards — totaling 593 acres — accounts for the House’s success and enduring excellence, spanning its multi-vintage Collection to the highly prized Cristal cuvée. Remarkably, 100% of the House’s vintage dated wines are estate-produced.

In the 1870s, the Louis Roederer Champagne House began to export its wines to the United States, and even to Tsar Alexander II of Russia. Louis Roederer II fashioned an exclusive champagne for the Tsar and launched a novel concept: the very first Cuvée de Prestige. It was created in 1876 and named ‘Cristal’. Ever since, the subtleness and elegance of Cristal have forged Louis Roederer’s reputation for excellence.
