Castello di Radda

High-Altitude Chianti Classico from Radda and Gaiole

Castello di Radda is the story of one meeting, one moment. On one side are the hills of Chianti Classico, with Radda in Chianti at the heart of a millennia of vinicultural history; on the other is the expertise of the group Agricole Gussalli Beretta, the agricultural branch of the Beretta brand.

The organically managed vineyards lie on the middle hills of Radda in Chianti, between 350 and 450 metres, and Gaiole in Chianti (Vertine), between 400 and 450 metres. The Radda vineyards enjoy south-easterly/south-westerly exposure and clayey-calcareous soils, rich in stone and poor in organic substance. The Gaiole vineyards slope steeply and are composed differently depending on exposure: the western part of the estate, terraced with dry-stone walls, has clayey soils rich in limestone; the eastern side is characterised by deeper soils richer in organic substance.

Castello di Radda has steered its agricultural management towards production that favors low yields, managed with constant manual interventions aimed at preserving only the best part of the fruit. Each plot is cultivated according to the needs of the soil, the plants and the microclimate. The agronomic operations are planned and adapted to the needs of each individual plot: from fertilization to pruning, from thinning to grass cover, the aim is to support the natural life cycle of each plant, without forcing it.
