Bodegas Riojanas

A Long-Established Rioja Producer

The Artacho family had a deep wine tradition when in 1890 they founded Bodegas Riojanas together with Rafael Carreras. Throughout its 100-year history, the winemaking techniques have evolved as innovation goes hand in hand with respect for tradition. They have incorporated the most advanced winemaking techniques that allow for adaptation to current market trends.

Bodegas Riojanas controls more than 300 hectares of vineyard from the best vineyards in Cenicero, San Vicente de la Sonsierra and nearby towns. The red grape par excellence in Rioja is Tempranillo, but Bodegas Riojanas also has one of the largest areas dedicated to Mazuelo and Graciano within the denomination, varieties that provide greater personality to their wines. The different plots of vineyards are situated on clay-limestone soils, of Miocene origin, suitable for producing the highest quality.

In early October, after going through the heat of summer, the harvest is carried out. Once in the winery, they undergo a meticulous manual selection bunch by bunch, making wines that are the greatest exponent of quality of Bodegas Riojanas. Once the grapes become wine through fermentation, they undergo aging in barrels and are subsequently bottled. The time spent in barrel and bottle determines the different categories of wine: Crianza, Reserva or Gran Reserva.
