Adega de Penalva

Authentic but accessible Portuguese growing collective
Adega de Penalva is a historic cooperative located in the heart of Portugal’s Dão region, in Penalva do Castelo. Founded in 1960, the co-op unites over 1,000 growers who collectively farm more than 1,200 hectares of vineyards. It’s one of the most respected and quality-driven cooperatives in the region, known for delivering remarkable value and typicity.
The Dão is defined by granite soils, moderate elevations, and a climate that balances warm summers with cool nights. Adega de Penalva's red wines are typically blends of Touriga Nacional, Jaen, Alfrocheiro, and Tinta Roriz, while whites often feature Encruzado and Malvasia Fina.
Modernized in recent years, the winery uses temperature-controlled stainless steel and oak-aging to deliver fresh, precise wines. Their Reserva Tinto and Reserva Branco are benchmarks for accessible, structured, and balanced Dão wines. Though large in scale, their wines reflect regional honesty and restrained winemaking.
