7 Radku

A Leading Eastern European Natural Producer

Filip Nagy, the brainchild behind 7 Řádků (or “7 Row” in English), founded the winery in 2014 with two friends who shared seven rows of vines in Moravia, Czech Republic. Since then, production has exceeded those seven rows, and Filip grows most of his grapes in Slovakia. In an attempt to remediate the effects of heavy pesticide and herbicide usage during the communist era, Filip farms his 1 Moravian hectare and 7 Slovakian hectares organically and biodynamically, utilizing the full biospheric support of cows, horses, goats, and bees in his vineyard work.

The tenets of Filip’s farming practice originated in his school days, where he observed his family’s small-scale production and saw the interpersonal connections formed through harvesting grapes and transforming them into wine. In Filip’s words, “wine is a material thing that captures three things if it is made sincerely: Time, place, and human.”

While situated in a cool-climate region, Filip’s vineyards are considered to have a warm Pannonian climate. As the planet warms, Filip’s cool-climate grapes could struggle. Today, Filip navigates the uncertainty with a measured guiding hand while allowing the vines to determine their own path. These wines have been featured in our Minimal Intervention club.
