This traditional red wine is made from a blend of 70% Sangiovese, 15% typical Montefalco grapes, and 15% other red grape varieties from central Italy. The grapes are hand harvested, with Sangiovese picked in late September and the Montefalco varieties following in October. Each variety is vinified separately, undergoing fermentation on the skins with 2–3 weeks of maceration before blending.
The wine is then aged for at least 9 months in large oak barrels, followed by static clarification in concrete tanks. It shows a ruby red color with an intense, fruity aroma of cherries and berries. On the palate, it is dry, balanced, and well-structured, with the freshness of Sangiovese giving it excellent drinkability. It can be enjoyed on its own or paired with a wide range of foods, including pasta dishes, red meats, and aged cheeses. While approachable now, it also has the ability to age gracefully in bottle over time. Serving temperature is best at 16–18°C.
