Scarbolo Pinot Grigio Pipinot 2023

Scarbolo is the flagship project of the new generation at the estate, Lara and Mattis Scarbolo, who took the reins fully in 2022.
 
In the local Friulian dialect, Pipinot translates to "rambunctious child" -a playful nod to the siblings shaking things up at the family winery. The 2023 vintage is a masterclass in the ramoto (copper) style, striking a gorgeous balance between a classic white and a structural orange wine, and the fruit was sourced from four vineyards on dolomitic limestone and clay soils.

In appearance the wine is a sparkling or pale rose-gold color, with warm apricot reflections. The nose is incredibly generous, exotic, and expressive. It opens with bright aromas of honeydew melon rind, and ripe peaches. The palate is texturally layered, and almost "pillowy" in the mouth, yet beautifully focused. The finish is long, intense, and driving. The initial fruit sweetness gives wat to a clean, slightly saline minerality and lingering notes of spice and citrus peel. This wine opens up dramatically with air, give it about 30 minutes to breathe, and serve it slightly cellar-temp rather than ice cold.
